An apology for absence was received from Councillor Williamson.

The minutes of the meeting were confirmed.

It was reported that there were £633 of uncleared cheques.

Small Grants

(i) Gorleston Lawn Tennis club

It was reported that a request had been received from Gorleston Lawn Tennis Club for £120 towards three heart rate monitors which would cost a total of £180.

RESOLVED:
That a £120 grant be agreed.

(ii) Great Yarmouth College

It was reported that a request had been received from Great Yarmouth College for £300 towards the cost of £450 towards a full sports kit with the college logo on.

The Sports Council discussed this and agreed that this would set a precedence to other colleges and clubs and that if this had been for sports kit it would have been agreed but not personalised sports equipment as this has a short life span.

RESOLVED:
That the grant be refused.

The Sports Council were informed that the Sports Awards judging panel which included the Mayor, Wayne Nixon (GYSLT), John White (GYSC) and Alex Bond (Active Norfolk) had met.  Several nominations were received but none for the Sporting Business of the year category.  The judges used an assessment criteria and were unanimous in their decisions.  

The Sports Awards would be held on Thursday 2 October 2014 at St Georges Theatre and invitations would be sent out to the successful nominations.  The Mayor would be hosting the event with the guest of honour Sophie McKinna and with John White and Alex Bond comparing. All winners will be nominated for the county wide Active Norfolk Awards.

The Partnerships Officer offered to help on the night of the awards.  Former long standing Great Yarmouth Sports Council member Phyllis Eccleston would be invited to attend.  

The format of the ceremony would follow that of the county wide awards ceremony. £500 sponsorship had been received from the Great Yarmouth Sport and Leisure Trust.
