Welcome by His Worship the Mayor, Councillor Carl Annison.

Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Bird, Candon, Capewell,  G Carpenter, P Carpenter, Cordiner-Achenbach, Grant, Lawn, McMullen & Mogford.

 

 

 

MOTION TO GRANT THE HONORARY FREEDOM OF THE BOROUGH TO MR CECIL PAGE, MR HUGH STURZAKER, MRS JAYNE BIGGS AND GREAT YARMOUTH SAMARITANS

 

Members to consider the motions.

1) Motion to Grant The Honorary Freedom of the Borough To Mr Cecil Page

 

Councillor Flaxman-Taylor proposed that in recognition of his eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of 59 years the Honorary Freedom of the Borough be presented to Mr Cecil Page.

 

Councillor Wright seconded the motion.

 

Council hereby voted on the motion.

 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) asked Mr Page to sign the scroll of Freedom of the Borough. The CEO read the scroll to Council which was presented to Mr Page by His Worship, The Mayor.

 

Proposer: Councillor Freeman-Taylor

Seconder: Councillor A Wright

 

That Council in recognition of his eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of 59 years the Honorary Freedom of the Borough be presented to Mr Cecil Page.

 

Mr Cecil Page who has dedicated his time and commitment to coaching younger generations of boxers across the Borough and has always stepped forward for community causes, acting as a guiding light for countless people, inspiring generations and making a difference to innumerable lives through his lifelong devotion to the Borough and a sport he so dearly loves.

 2) Motion to Grant The Honorary Freedom of the Borough To Mr Hugh Sturzaker

 

The Leader of the Council proposed that in recognition of their eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of 49 years the Honorary Freedom of the Borough be presented to Mr Hugh Sturzaker.

 

Councillor Waters-Bunn seconded the motion.

 

Council hereby voted on the motion.
 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) asked Mr Sturzaker to sign the scroll of Freedom of the Borough. The CEO read the scroll to Council which was presented to Mr Sturzaker by His Worship, The Mayor.

Seconder: Councillor Waters-Bunn

 

That Council in recognition of their eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of 49 years the Honorary Freedom of the Borough be presented to Mr Hugh Sturzaker.

 

Mr Hugh Sturzaker has shown remarkable dedication to the Borough through extensive medical, cultural, and civic contributions. As a pioneering surgeon, has helped develop key hospital departments and brought innovative surgical techniques to the area. Beyond this, has worked tirelessly to enrich Great Yarmouth’s community life, helping to preserve local heritage, and founding the Civic Society of Great Yarmouth.

3) Motion to Grant The Honorary Freedom of the Borough To Mrs Jayne Biggs

 

Councillor Robinson-Payne proposed that in recognition of the eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of eight years that the Honorary Freedom of the Borough is presented to Mrs Jayne Biggs

 

Councillor Bensly seconded the motion.

 

Council hereby voted on the motion.
 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) asked Mrs Biggs to sign the scroll of Freedom of the Borough. The CEO read the scroll to Council which was presented to Mrs Biggs by His Worship, The Mayor.

Seconder:- Councillor Bensly

 

That Council  in recognition of the eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of eight years that the Honorary Freedom of the Borough is presented to Mrs Jayne Biggs.

 

Mrs Jayne Biggs who during such time has shown dedication and commitment through many charitable events, working tirelessly to provide residents and visitors access to life saving equipment at all times contributing to the saving of lives whilst providing essential training to many people within the community and schools across the Borough

 

CARRIED.

 

4) Motion to Grant The Honorary Freedom of the Borough To Great Yarmouth Samaritans

 

Councillor Wainwright proposed that in recognition of their eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of 57 years the Honorary Freedom of the Borough be presented to Great Yarmouth Samaritans.

 

Councillor Plant seconded the motion.

Council hereby voted on the motion.

 

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) asked the representative of Great Yarmouth Samaritans  to sign the scroll of Freedom of the Borough. The CEO read the scroll to Council which was presented to Great Yarmouth Samaritans by His Worship, The Mayor.

That Council  in recognition of the eminent and valuable services rendered to the people of the Borough of Great Yarmouth for over a period of fifty seven years that the Honorary Freedom of the Borough is presented to Great Yarmouth Samaritans.

 

Great Yarmouth Samaritans where volunteers have worked tirelessly to provide vital emotional support to residents and communities across the Borough since 1968, and, in addition to staffing telephone helplines, provided outreach events whilst promoting community awareness of the Samaritan service, in further recognition of their services they received the Kings award for voluntary service in 2023.
