5 BOROUGH'S CULTURAL BOARD : update by Julia Devonshire

Julia updated the partnership on the Great Places scheme which now included 9 partners and core partner groups.  They were working on venue development at the Seagull, Marina and St Georges' Theatres.

 

The Waterways project was working with Flipside and hoped to start this work within a month.

 

There would be a Youth Festival in the Autumn.

 

Great Yarmouth Expo an audit was taking place on Everyday Cultural Assetts and what Great Yarmouth has to offer.

 

The underpass near Fuller's Hill would be covered with graffiti.

 

 
6 UPDATE ON GREAT PLACES : update by Julia Deovnshire

Julia updated the partnership on the Great Places scheme which now included 9 partners and core partner groups.  They were working on venue development at the Seagull, Marina and St Georges' Theatres.

7 TOWN CENTRE MASTERPLAN

The Senior Strategic Planner tabled a briefing note  which stated that the Great Yarmouth Town Centre Masterplan was approved by Council on 16th May 2017 and continues to move forward in its vision to deliver, over the longer term, exciting opportunities for better shopping, leisure, housing and commercial development and transport links.

 

The following key projects are within the masterplan:-

 

1 Improving the markets and market place - plans to develop the market place continues to move forward , the council recently appointed Norwich based consultants Hudson Architects with the task of re-designing the market and market place and obtaining full planning consent for the necessary works by the end of 2018.  All major works to the Market Place are anticipated to be completed by 2020/21.

 

2 Transforming the Conge & Hall Quay - The Council is currently preparing planning and development briefs to guide the anticipated changes to The Conge and Hall Qua, as brought about by the Town Centre Masterplan.  Planning and Development briefs are useful tools that can help guide developers and agents on matters such as planning policy and likely design when pursuing planning applications.  Both planning briefs will be subject to a round of public consultation - anticipated in autumn 2018.

 

 

 

 

8 CULTURAL HERITAGE CONFERENCE 3 NOVEMBER 2017

The Chairman reported that he had produced a brochure from the 2017 conference and had sent this out to the list of names from the database and It was agreed that a brochure would also be sent to Paul Davis, Kaavous Clayton, Miriam Kikis, Tom Harrison and Richard Harrison.

 

 

9 FUTURE CULTURAL HERITAGE PARTNERSHIP CONFERENCE

The partnership board discussed the idea of a conference and it was suggested that a presentation on making waves could take place at a conference in two years time along with looking sideways east a cultural tourism evaluation. 

 

10 CREATIVE WORKSPACE SUMMIT CONFERENCE : Kaavous Clayton

Kaavous stated that the Creative Space Summit Conference would be held that week and would be about how to work with creative industries, with an Open Studio from 6-9 pm in the South Denes area. Tickets for the event could be booked through event brite with Le Mexicano preparing the food.  There would be welcome packs for each delegate and the former Chairman of Adnams who is a travelling and drinks writer would be in attendance.

 

11 CIVIC SOCIETY OF GREAT YARMOUTH

It was reported that the Civic Society meet most months with good speakers such as the High Steward and the next meeting would be held on 5th May 2018. 

The Society were carrying out litter picks and would be holding one in May for National Litter Pick  and there is a prize of £10,000 for the best place.

 

12 RECENT AND FUTURE CULTURAL HERITAGE EVENTS

(i) Richard Harrison reported that he was working on a project to promote cultural heritage in the town which was linked to the records office and had been successful in winning a heritage lottery grant of £5,000.

 

(ii) Paul Davis spoke of a Heritage Fayre being held on 9th June at the Minster with 9 stalls and would be showing pictures and video's of Great Yarmouth.

 

(iii) The Arts Festival Carnival would be held on Saturday 9 June along with Festa Fiesta and a Community Fair.  Part of King Street would be closed for a Street Circus, Food and drink and events would be held in St George's Drill House, Library and Market Place.  The Festival Brochure and website would have all the details. 

 

(iv) Wheels Festival to be held in June/July.

 

(v) Airshow - June.

 

(vi) Maritime Festival - September.

 

(vii) Out There Festival - September

 

(viii) Display of Great Yarmouth Train Station -  pictures round station in time for the Airshow.

 

(xi) 90th Anniversary  of the Waterways event to be held on 2 August 2018.

 

(x) A tea dance would be held on 28th May and a figure drawing class on 20th.

 

 

 

 

13 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
To consider any other business as may be determined by the Chairman of the meeting as being of sufficient urgency to warrant consideration.

The Partnership spoke of the Gorleston Manuscript and it was agreed that Councillor Fairhead would be asked to approach the person who has it to pass it back to the Council.

 

14 FUTURE MEETING

To agree the date and time of the next meeting.

It was agreed that the next meeting would be held on Tuesday 17 July 2018 at 10.00 am.
