Hugh reported that at the last meeting Anglia Water had stated that a solution would be in place by 2019.  A Map of three possible solutions was tabled which Anglia Water had explored and their preferred option was to tunnel the length of Suffolk Road to install another pipe. Norfolk County Council Highways had stated that they would looking to take the surface water out of the drains and into the dikes.  Members expressed concern at the surface water being directed to the dikes which were already at saturation point as they were not being maintained by the Internal Drainage Board particularly the Suffolk Road dike.  Councillor Fairhead stated that she would be attending an IDB meeting on the 16th October 2017 and would be raising these concerns.

Councillor Plant suggested that a meeting he held with Norfolk County Council Highways, Anglia Water and Councillors.

Residents raised the following issues:-

  • that the drains were blocked and were not getting cleared out regularly.
  • Grass not being collected and blocking the drains
  • Having to put sandbags and flood gates up every time it rained.

It was agreed that Hugh would visit the residents of 142 Beccles Road to see if they could have non return valves and flood gates fitted.

Councillor Wainwright pointed out that although the Claydon Road Site had been given planning permission they would not be able to start the development until they had a water management system in place.

Councillor C Walker stated that she would look into seeing if the drains could be cleared.

Hugh agreed to look into the works at Long Lane/Trinity Avenue which had been closed for some time and to provide an update on the progress.
