Apologies for absence were received from Councillor A Grey, Mr A Jones, Mrs K Childs, Mrs L Finch, Dr P Davies, Mr R Hanley, Mr R Swift, Mr C Stott, Mr C Stanley and Mrs C Paddock.

The Partnership received and considered the Arts Strategy document.

 

The Group Manager Neighbourhoods & Communities gave a presentation on the Arts Strategy to the meeting.

 

Two workshops were undertaken to discuss how the partners would deliver the six priority objectives set out in the agenda. Feedback was then given to the Group Manager Housing & Communities to feed into the consultation process.

The minutes of the meeting held on 14 June 2014 were confirmed. It was noted that with regard to minute number 12, Cultural Heritage Conference 2016, that the date should read Friday, 21st October not July.

  The Chairman reported that the first item were covered elsewhere on the agenda.

  • Cultural Heritage Map & Website

Paul Patterson demonstrated the website and map which he was developing and it was hoped that there would be a presentation at the Conference on 20th October 2016.

  • Tea Events

The Chairman reported that the Tea Events which had been staged by local schools and had included a "flashmob" dance event in the Market Place had been well received.

The Partnership received & considered the report.

 

Franchesca Edwards reported that she did not think it would be difficult to source volunteers to run the booking office. The Group Manager Tourism & Communications reported that the Borough Heritage Guides might volunteer too.

 

The Group Manager Tourism & Communications reported that he would hold discussions with EMT to see if Tourism could offer to undertake a supervisory role in the operation of this facility. He also reported that the report did not contain costings for fittings or fixtures.

 

RESOLVED:

That the Committee noted the report.

The minutes of the Branding meeting held on 7 July 2016 were noted.

 

Councillor Williamson reported that a single map encompassing the tourism, arts, culture and heritage offers of the Borough was not available at the present time. Funding for such a definitive map had been secured from the Environment Committee and would be produced in partnership with the Preservation Trust and Norfolk Conservation. The map would also be able to be downloaded to a mobile device.

 

Councillor Williamson would advise the Chairman of the date/time/venue of the next Branding meeting.

 

 

 

9 FUNDING WORK OF THE PARTNERSHIP

The Chairman reported that the Council had agreed to cover the upfront costs of staging the Second Annual Cultural Heritage Conference which would be held at St.Georges Theatre on 20 October 2016.

 

 

10 MEASURING ATTENDANCES

The Chairman reported that it was essential that we had good statistics of how many people were visiting cultural heritage sites to assess whether visitor numbers were increasing. Unfortunately, Charlotte Paddock was not present to give an update on the visitor figures.

 

The Chairman reported that The Minster had recently installed a footfall counter in the vestry. 

 

The Chairman reported that he would be grateful if all organisations represented around the table, including numbers at local restaurants and public houses, could collate this data and forward it to Charlotte Paddock (charlotte.paddock@great-yarmouth.gov.uk)

The Partnership received and considered the report.

 

The Chairman reported a typo in item number 3, the sixth word should read plaques and not plagues.

 

The Chairman reported that local schools had indicated that they would be willing to sponsor a plaque as part of their culture & heritage curriculum.

 

The Group Manager Tourism & Communications reported that this was a project worthy of consideration but not at the moment and suggested it should be included in the "wish list" of the Town Centre Masterplan Initiative.

 

 

12 PROMOTION OF CULTURAL HERITAGE EVENTS

To be discussed at the meeting.

The Chairman reported that it was imperative that one comprehensive diary was drawn up to include all tourism, arts, culture & heritage events which would be held throughout the Borough on an annual basis. It was hoped that this Event's List would be produced by Charlotte Paddock, Assistant Conservation Officer.

The Chairman reported the salient areas of his report to the Partnership with regard to the Second Annual Cultural Heritage Conference which would take place at St.Georges Theatre on 20 October 2016.

14 FUTURE CULTURAL HERITAGE EVENTS

The Chairman reported that on the evening before the Cultural Heritage Conference, the 19th October 2016, there would be a talk in the Time and Tide Museum on some of its magnificent paintings together with light refreshments. The cost of tickets was £10 each and they can be obtained through the Time & Tide Museum.

 

The Chairman reported that the following Cultural & Heritage Events had been scheduled for 2017.

  • Maritime Festival
  • Air show
  • GY Arts Festival
  • Out There Festival
  • Wheels Festival
  • imaginepeople Event.

 

 

 

 

15 WHAT'S NEXT

The Chairman reported that "What's Next" was a small group of people who got together to discuss varying issues and/or items of interest throughout the Borough. New members would be most welcome to attend.

 

The next meeting would take place on Thursday, 13 October 2016 at 10 am in Great Yarmouth Library.
