(a) D Day - 6 June 2016

 

The Civic and Events Manager stated that a service would be held in the centre of St Georges Park at 6:30pm and that the parade would need to assemble outside St Georges by 6:00pm the parade would include, Marching Veterans, Standing bearers, Junior Leaders and Drummers.

It was advised that the D Day Veterans who have been awarded a Legion of Honour would be invited to attend afternoon tea with the Mayor prior to the Service, Paul Williams, Royal British Legion advised that he held details of one of the veterans and Terry Byrne, Senior Officer JLAC held details for a Mr J Dickens it was agreed that these would be passed on to the Civic and Events Manager.

 

(b) Armed Forces Day - 25 June 2016

 

It was reported that the flag raising will be on the 20 June at 11:00am.

Terry Byrne, Senior Officer JLAC advised that they would be holding an event in the Market place 10am till 4pm on the 25 June, and that at 11:00am a ceremony would take place to award badges to 22 Veterans, Brandon Lewis has been invited to present the awards and it was agreed the Mayor also be invited to attend.

It was reported that the Junior Leaders would be providing catering and entertainment for the Veterans at the Junior Leaders Officers.

The Civic and Events Manager requested that the correct street collection licenses be applied for prior to the event.

The Chairman made reference to the potential for an Air Show in Great Yarmouth in 2017/19 and how the event could be linked with Armed Forces Day.

 

(c) Battle of the Soane - 1st July 2016

 

The Civic and Events Manager reported that there would be a service at Great Yarmouth Minster to mark the event on behalf of the British Legion with a Civic Service on Sunday 3 July at 11:00am, Jane Williams, Royal British Legion advised that she had received some literature to read at the service.

 

(d) Battle of Britain, Civic Service - 18 September 2016

 

It was reported that a Civic Service would be held at Norwich Cathedral on the 18th September.

 

(e) Trafalgar Day - 23 October 2016

 

A service will be held on the 23 October at 1:00pm at the Monument, it was advised that the parade were to meet at 12:45 at South Beach Parade.

 

(f) Festival of Remembrance - 12 November 2016

 

The Civic and Events Manager reported that their would be 2 performances this year, with the first to commence at 2:00pm followed by a later performance of 4:30pm, refreshments will be available.

The Civic and Events Manager asked the representatives from the Royal British Legion if monies had been received  

 

(g) Remembrance Day - 13 November 2016

 

It was reported that a service would be held at St Georges as normal.

 

(h) Norfolk Military Tattoo - Great Yarmouth 2017

 

It was reported that this event would no longer be taking place.

 

 

6 THE GREAT WAR - A TIMELINE

Colin Tooke advised that there had been no further changes to report and that there were no local events taking place in the forthcoming months. 

7 BOROUGH EVENTS

(a) Great Yarmouth Preservation / Great Yarmouth Archaeological Society to report.

(b) Norfolk Museums to report.

There was no update provided on the Borough Events.

 

8 ANY OTHER BUSINESS
To consider any other business as may be determined by the Chairman of the meeting as being of sufficient urgency to warrant consideration.

The Civic Events Manager advised that the Annual Civic Service would be held on the 31 August 2016 at 7:00pm in the Minster.
