4 MATTERS ARISING

To consider any matters arising from the above minutes.

It was reported that the Martha Taylor plaque had still not been installed and it was agreed that the Civic Events Officer would look into this.  It was also suggested that Caister School Children could be involved in this by laying a wreath.

(a) Tea Dance 1 April 2015 

This event would be held in the Assembly Room of the Town Hall at 2.30 pm.   Tickets would be £12.  There would be dancing and a show by Dusmagrick.     

(b) D Day 6 June 2015

A Service would be held in Great Yarmouth Minster at 1.00pm with the laying of a wreath in St Georges park prior to this at 12.30.  The Civic Events officer stated that she had requested a band for this event.  An orchestra would in the Minster as park of the Great Yarmouth Arts Festival.  A press release would be prepared.

(c) Waterloo Service 18 June 2015 

This would be an evening service at 7pm in the Minster meeting at the town hall at 6.30pm to parade to the Minster as a service.  Standard bearers would be involved in the parade and would hold a guard of honour on arrival at the Minster.
 

(d) 70th Anniversary of VJ Day 16 August 2015

The Council's Civic Service would also commemorate this event.  The service would be held at 11.00am with a parade and standards.
 
(e) Remembrance Festival 7 November 2015

The Civic Events Officer stated that she had met with the Salvation Army Band and that Tony Mallion would compare again.   The show would be held from 4pm - 6pm with rehearsals from 1.30pm.  It was suggested that people should stand when the standards enter.  Christchurch would be used to store the musical cases and as a green room.  It was suggested that the Peterhouse School film be played as part of the festival.  Local school children would be encouraged to cut more poppies.  Dauntless would be interviewed.  More flags would be issued to members of the public to wave during the festival.  There would be a Glen Miller section.

7 BOROUGH EVENTS

(a) Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust / Great Yarmouth Archaeological Society to report.
(b) Norfolk Museums to report.

(a) Great Yarmouth Preservation Trust / Great Yarmouth Archaeological Society to report.

An event would be held on 27th June 2015  for the  675th Battle of Sloice  which is the battle against the French.  Great Yarmouth gave most of the men and boats to this battle.  Three speakers would attend and a Blue Plaque in recognition of the battle would be placed on the Custom House.

Galibilee - Many Norfolk people didn't forgive Winston Churchill for this campaign as lots of lives were lost.
