The Finance Director gave a presentation regarding the Budget 2023-24.
The Chairman gave an update on the major regeneration projects in the town, including the re-development of the Market Place, the Town Deal funded initiatives such as the new Learning Hub and the Wintergardens and the Levelling-Up Fund which would fund the re-development of the Train Station area which was the one of the gateways to the Town &The Conge. In total, including the new Third River Crossing, about £300 million investment had been secured for Great Yarmouth.
Ms Baileigh thanked the officers for the presentation and reported that she was pleased with the level of new investment in Great Yarmouth. However, she did highlight issues with parking in the Town Centre for business owners in the Town Centre and King Street, which were causing issues for traders in loading/unloading of goods, as the Civil Parking Enforcement Officers regularly warned the delivery drivers that they could not park and unload in certain areas due to the traffic regulations in situ. The Chairman thanked Ms Baileigh for bringing this to his attention and he agreed to investigate this issue as supporting local business to thrive was a key priority for the Council.
Councillor Candon thanked Ms Beileigh for attending and he reiterated the Chairman’s statement that supporting local businesses was a key priority for the Council.
The Chairman thanked the Finance Director and her team for all their hard work in the production of the budget and thanked everyone who had attended the meeting.
