The treasurer reported the salient areas of the Annual Report and Financial Statements for the year ending 31st December 2013 to the Trust. He reported that the changes agreed at the recent Annual General Meeting has been reflected in the accounts.

The Chairman thanked the Treasurer with assistance from Mr James Ship for the preparation of the accounts. He announced that the Treasurer had recently retired but had agreed to carry on as the Treasurer for the Trust. The Chairman agreed to write to James Ship to thank him for all his valued assistance. Reverend Chris Terry also asked that it be minuted that the committee thanked the Treasurer for his kind assistance.

4 MATTERS ARISING
  • Patronage

  • Peregrine - The Chairman reported that it was the breeding season and it was hoped that at the end of the month with the assistance of the fire brigade that a camera could be installed to enable the peregrines to be watched.
  • Friends - Colin Smith reported that he had four volunteers willing to come on board to get the Friends up and running again. It was hoped that the Minster could be kept open until 4pm. He himself would be retiring shortly and aimed to be in the Minster three days per week.
  • Patronage - The Chairman reported that the Countess of Leicester has agreed to accept the position of Patron of the Minster, the Chairman would shortly be writing to her. A Member suggested that the position of Vice Patron should be offered to the Office of the Mayor of the Borough. The Chairman agreed to write to the Civic Secretary to see if this would be possible.

  • Quiz/Treasure Hunt (David McDermott) - an update could not be given as David was not present at the meeting.
  • An Evening with Keith Skues at the Masonic Rooms (Ian Miller) - It was reported that this would probably take place during September.
  • Reverend Peter Glanville's talk from Microphone to Ministry (Colin Smith) - No further update available.
  • WW1 Centenary 2014 with Great Yarmouth Archaeological Society - An exhibition would be held in the south aisle of the church. The issue of display boards was being investigated, it was hoped to apply for grant funding for display boards in partnership with another association which would encourage schools to become involved which meant that we would be more likely to get the grant. The display would commence on the 1st August 2014 for 3 months, in this period the Civic Service would take place on the 3rd August 2014, with a vigil held on the 4th August 2014 and a Royal British Legion dinner was planned for the 2nd August 2014.
  • Arts Festival June 2014 - Hugh Sturzaker circulated a draft programme. It was hoped that the festival would take place between the 6th June and the 15th June 2014. On the 8th June it was hoped that a biographyon the life of Jack Cardiff would be held in St Georges and as a result that this would rejuvenate the Great Yarmouth Film Club. Sponsorship was still required.
  • Tony T Band 10th May 2017, £7.50, Charlie Marsden - The Chairman reported that this was the same date as the Civic Ball and that this might effect numbers.
  • Wedding Fayre (Colin Smith) - Sandra and Colin reported that recently a large number of wedding fayres had been held across the Borough. Sandra suggested that the Minster should consider holding an alternative event for example a vintage fayre and she had made initial enquiries as to the cost to hold such an event. Reverend Terry reported that as a result of the recent Wedding Fayre held at the Minster a number of small traders had secured much needed business.
  • Dixiemix Jazz booked 12th July 2014.
  • Cantus Orientissimus Concert 27th September 7.30pm - The proceeds must not be given to the organ fund.
  • Gorleston Community Choir - The choir will perform free of charge on the 9th August 2014.
  • Afternoon Tea with Hannah Long - Hannah Lond was expecting a baby in June so the earliest possible date for this would be September 2014.
  • Blessing of Nets and Herring Supper, Sunday 5th October 6.30pm - This would be organised by Arthur Hollis and his Rotarians. Mastersons would be approached for the donation of the herring and the Lydia Eva Trust would be asked to attend the service and pull the nets up the aisle.
  • Christmas Tree Festival, Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd November 2014.

Hugh Sturzaker reported that at the Civic Service held in the Minster on the 12th January 2014 to celebrate the centenary of Sir James Paget had been well received and that the sermon given by Bishop Graham had been printed by the Council and would be sold for £1 each to raise funds for the Minster.
